Season’s Greetings from FCA

Archived: Posted December 18, 2014

It’s that time of year again. The tree is up, the lights are sparkling and we’ve all got our fingers crossed for snow. But as the year draws to a close, it’s time to look back on 2014 – and what a year it’s been!

We’ve had plenty to celebrate this year including our 20th anniversary. It’s been two decades since we started changing children’s lives and our founders, Jan and Jim, marked the milestone with a UK tour, a host of parties and educational talks for carers and staff across our regions; these are all fantastic fun but all for a purpose – to give our carers the tools to be a success!

We’ve also held some fantastic family events. In March, teams of foster carers, staff and children from across the UK hit the right note when they took part in our annual Big Sing Off competition. Eleven teams came together for the inspirational event, with the South West choir finally crowned champions for their rendition of Elton John’s classic Can You Feel the Love Tonight?

A convoy of brightly coloured FCA cars toured the UK in May to mark Foster Care Fortnight. We visited 10 locations in 10 days in celebration of the two-week national campaign to raise awareness of fostering and recruit much-needed foster carers. Some of our very own foster carers helped out with this, one of the many fun and unusual activities our carers get involved in.

In July, we hosted our 11th annual football tournament – and it was our most successful to date! Over 1,200 carers, staff and children came together to take part in the event, which recognises the talents of children of all abilities and is well-loved by foster carers for its inclusive atmosphere and team spirit.

In October, a team of our foster carers and staff took to the road as part of our Magical Memories Tour. Stopping off at 17 towns across the South in 24 days, we used a treasure trove of retro toys and treats to encourage locals to revisit the joys of childhood and discover how they could help vulnerable children create happy memories to last a lifetime.

But we’re not just well known for our successful tours and big events. There’s always plenty going in our regions too. In December, our Wales team raised over £2000 for children’s hospice Ty Hafan by hosting an annual gala dinner. The event, which was attended by foster carers and local businesses from across the region, was a huge success and packed with fundraising activities including raffles, donations and an auction. Read more here.

It’s all part of the excellent support we pride ourselves on offering our foster carers. After all, they work hard every day to help change the lives of looked after children and young people.

So we’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you. We wish you all Season’s Greetings and a Happy New Year – here’s to 2015 and making a difference to more children and young people!
