Celebrating our Inspirational Young People
Over the weekend we enjoyed a huge celebration event for all our young people in Northern Ireland. It was the largest event we have had to date with nearly 170 of our young people, foster families and staff meeting up at Mount Stewart Estate which is a National Trust property on the shores of Strangford Lough.
On arrival the children and young people participated in forest school activities facilitated by the National Trust CYPs team. During this time some of the foster parents enjoyed a walk around the main house and formal gardens.
Following this we gathered in the natural play area for the awards ceremony to begin which was compered by our Fostering Services Manager, Patrick Devlin and our Regional Manager Ciara Doyle.
We had 146 nominations for the twelve awards that could be won which were as follows:
ACADEMIC STAR AWARD
For a primary aged young person who has been doing really well at school.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD
For a secondary school aged young person who has been doing really well at school.
OUTSTANDING PROGRESS AWARD
This award is for a young person who has made incredible progress and achieving academically.
IMPACT AWARD
This award is for an adult who has taken the time to be a positive influence in a YP’s life and encourage and support them to achieve. Nominations for this award have been made by YP themselves.
KINDNESS AWARD
This award is in recognition of a YP who always shows incredible kindness and thoughtfulness to those around them.
OUTSTANDING OVERALL ACHIEVEMENT
This award recognises a YP who has made an incredible overall achievement in any aspect of their life.
OUTSTANDING YOUNG ADULT AWARD
This award is to recognise a young adult previously a member of the FCA family who has overcome adversity and is succeeding in any endeavour they are pursuing
SPECIAL SIBLING AWARD
This award is to recognise the support our children who foster give to young people who are welcomed into their family.
SPORTING EXCELLENCE AWARD
This award is to recognise one of our YP who is excelling in the sporting world and is dedicated to achieving in their area of expertise.
INFLUENCER AWARD
This award is to recognise a YP who supports other children and young people, shows patience and kindness and is a wonderful role model.
VOLUNTEERING/SOCIAL VALUE AWARD
This award is to acknowledge the incredible social value impact one of our YP has made in regard to their local community or a particular charity.
STAR 'DIFFERENCE MAKER' AWARD
This very special award is in memory of one of our YP – Star Lattimer who sadly passed away earlier this year. She fiercely advocated for children and young people’s voices to be heard through a number of different mediums. This award is in recognition of a YP who is following in her footsteps by advocating for her on behalf of other CYPs voices. One of her closest friends attended to present this award on her behalf - thank you!
Following the awards we enjoyed a picnic, face painting and a magician show in the woods.
The weather was superb, well done to all of our children and young people, thank you to all our families who made the effort to attend and to our FCA team for working so hard behind the scenes.
