Providing support when it’s needed – Cymru South celebrate carer achievement

Archived: Posted September 30, 2015

Foster carers from across South and West Wales recently attended a Swansea Super Support Group at the Mercure Hotel in Swansea.

The event was an opportunity for foster carers in the area to reflect on and share their positive experiences of being a foster carer and the incredible work they do with the young people they look after.

It was also a pleasure to welcome Jan Rees, Co-Founder of Foster Care Associates, and Richard Brandford, Service Manager of Carer Retention and Welfare.

Many emotive, and touching stories were heard from carers, as well as contributions from Jan and Richard who spoke about their own experiences working with children and young people.

Our Cymru South team, including Ruchi Chawla, Helen Burt, Llinos Maher and Zoe Wells, were really proud to present carers Christine and Michael Smith with 15-year long service award.

During the support group our carers were given new FCA branded t-shirts and caps and after lunch took the opportunity to showcase them in an impromptu fashion show!

The following week we held our Carer Support Group in Cardiff where Richard Brandford hosted a carer consultation exercise to help launch FCA’s new recording tool, which will assist in making it more meaningful and user-friendly.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Carer Support Group meetings in Swansea and Cardiff – your commitment and dedication ensure that together we are able to achieve the best outcomes for the children and young people in our care.
