Family fun for lucky competition winner

Archived: Posted July 29, 2015

Earlier this year we ran a competition giving our Facebook followers the chance to win a family day out worth £150. To enter, they had to find our founder Jim Cockburn in a ‘Where’s Wally’ style image of a crowd.

Lucky competition winners, The PritchardsOur lucky winners were Fiona Pritchard, her husband Phil, and daughters Lauren and Freya from Ipswich, who bagged themselves a fun-packed weekend at Chessington World of Adventures.

The thrill-seeking Pritchard family descended on the Surrey-based theme park on Saturday 4th July for two days of adventure – all courtesy of Foster Care Associates (FCA).

Mum Fiona tells us more about her family’s incredible trip…

“We left home at 8am on the Saturday morning to make sure we were there when the park opened. The sun was shining and we were very excited. What should we do first? We decided on a water ride – a refreshing start to the day!

After a welcome break for a slush puppy, we went on a few rides and watched the ‘Penguins of Madagascar Live’ show, which ended with us getting covered in orange streamers!

Back at the hotel, we had a refreshing dip in the pool and a delicious meal in the restaurant, before collapsing into bed to get some beauty sleep – before getting up the next day to do it all again!

There was just about everything you could wish for the next morning at the buffet breakfast – good, because we needed plenty of energy for the day ahead!

We went on lots of rides in the morning, before a pit stop for lunch. After eating, we headed to the zoo and sea life centre. We managed to get up close to lions, tigers and monkeys, and walked through a glass tunnel where we saw sharks and sting rays swimming all around us. We came out just in time to listen to a talk on penguins. At the entrance, there was a huge parrot on the fence. I didn’t like that – I’m not too keen on birds!

After a delicious treat from the chocolate fountain stall, it was time to have one last go on our favourite rides before heading home.

We had an amazing time at Chessington – and it was the perfect way to celebrate both mine and my daughter Lauren’s birthday.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone from FCA for arranging the trip.”

At FCA, we know how important it is for families to spend quality time together. So we hold regular events, activities and competitions for our foster carers, their families and the children they look after.
