FCA North East walk and talk at Derwent Valley Park

Relevant tags: #fcanortheast

FCA North  East staff organised another Walk and Talk and this month the topic was “how can we further develop/change our welfare strategy for 2020.  Senior Administrator Margaret tells us how they got on.

We started our walk at Winlaton Mill car park. Staff member Nichola set the pace which felt like a hundred miles an hour. The scenery was beautiful, at the highest points you could see for miles, there is a stream which runs right through Derwent Valley Park..  Nichola give a running commentary on days as a child she spent there to taking her own children for walks, paddling in the stream.

We discussed the offer Registered Manager Neil had suggested at the Team Meeting, that after the Monday morning meetings if social workers wished to go the little café next to the office to discuss/support each other. Most social workers work from home so maybe they don’t have that peer support as readily as they would of if they were office based.

Another suggestion was to acquire a small meeting table for the meeting room so staff in the office could sit together at lunch time and and have a catch up.

The feedback from these Walk and Talks have been extremely positive and we would like to implement more walks in 2020 encouraging all staff to attend where possible.  The walk was a good opportunity for us to talk and support one another.

Nichola is coming up with some dates for night-time/weekend socials for the staff to attend to unwind and let their hair down.

Getting back to the walk I asked Nichola if she knew her way around the park to which she replied “I know this park like the back of my hand lasses”. So after leaving the main path Nichola took us up these very steep steps that went on forever, eventually we reached the top.  Nichola asked us to stay where we were so she could find the path we were to follow, few minutes later she appeared out of the trees like David Livingston expressing “well lasses I’ve taken the wrong path” with that she started to go back down the steps we had just walked up. In total we did 15,000 steps approximately 7 ½ miles, just finished the walk when the heavens opened and had lunch at the famous Petros Restaurant.

FCA North East is an Ofsted Outstanding region.
