The FCA North East Foster Carer Lesley Crawford attends Buckingham Palace Garden Party
My daughter and I enjoyed a two-day break in London for our visit to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party.
We chose a hotel within a ten-minute walk from Buckingham Palace which was great for taking in all of the sites of London. We arrived at the hotel with all our refinery. I choose a beautiful lilac outfit with navy accessories and my daughter chose a beautiful pink outfit with black accessories. Accessing the tube in the underground was a new experience for me and experiencing rush hour in London on the way home was a major hurdle for me and something I could not have done without my daughter present. We met another mum and daughter staying in the same hotel so we shared a taxi to the palace, struggling to walk in our heels!
The day was something special! It started around 3.00pm and closed around 6.30pm. The sun was shining all day and the atmosphere was electric. The day was very well organised and tight security in place as you would expect with lots of onlookers. Thousands of people were present in all of their top hats and gowns and it was difficult to see the Queen in the grounds although I could see her guardsmen. We walked through the palace grounds and through to the magnificent palace gardens where a marquee was situated. Afternoon tea was fabulous and very delicate with finger foods, tarts and cakes. We were all served ice cream later in the day as it was so hot.
We loved London and watched the changing of the guard. I loved the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus which is something spectacular.
I feel very honoured to have been nominated by Lord Lieutenant, Her Grace The Duchess of Northumberland to attend the Alnwick garden party last year with my son and this year the Royal Buckingham Garden Party with my daughter. It has been a very special experience for me and something I will not forget for a long time. The event was a celebration and acknowledges all of the work by foster carers who are doing a fantastic job caring for looked after children and young people. Thank you to FCA for all of their support over the years and helping me to do the job I love.
