FCA North East Eco project launched
FCA North East recently launched their Eco Project and Environment Strategy for 2020 which aims to improve ways the region can help protect nature and the environment.
North East Environment Project Lead, Catherine Whalley got in touch with a local community interest company who were working with the Woodland Trust and tasked to plant over 2,000 saplings. So last month our environmentally friendly fostering families and staff lent a hand along with other volunteers to help create a new woodland in the Durham Dales.
Catherine tells us more about the day. “Although the sun was eventually shining after weeks of rain it was a very cold and frosty morning. but we wrapped up warm and were raring to go! Quite a few of us were novices at woodland planting so one of our foster parents gave a very helpful demonstration and we were ready to getting going. After a frost through the night the ground was very solid, so it was time for team work to dig. Before we knew it we had created our very own corner of Foster Care Associates woodland. It was such a sense of achievement by all who attended, particularly for our children and young people knowing that the tree they have planned would still be there hopefully for years to come and would be working to help the environment and ‘save our plant’ everyday! So now it’s on to our next challenge in 2020, Spring Beach Cleans and much more”.
As a foster parent with FCA North East our Ofsted Outstanding rated region, you’ll have many opportunities to participate in many social events and meet other fostering families and children.
