Who better to tell you what it’s like to be a foster carer than our foster carers?

Foster carers from FCA East Midlands have shared their experiences.

“My experience as a foster carer has been great. We have had our ups and downs, but overall it’s been amazing especially where we are now. It’s going to be hard to let them go, but we all know that they’re going to go to a happy family. We will miss them dearly and they’ll always be in our hearts.”

“We enjoy fostering. Most children have been through so much and you get to watch them blossom and come to life – that’s a great feeling. Most of the placements who come to us have very little confidence, but you get to help them and see them achieve things, even if it is just small things. Those memories will stay with me and my husband for life.”

How it makes you feel as a foster carer when you see even the smallest positive progression or change in the children or young people you care for is amazing. We get to see those small changes, share those new experiences and offer opportunities with the support of FCA. That makes us proud to be foster carers.”

“Our placement is the first residential migration we have had and they came to us at 13 years old after spending approximately two years in residential care. We were expecting it to be a hard, long journey, but have been amazed at how well it has gone nearly a year on. She came and fitted in as well as any other child and we wouldn’t change a thing! We are so glad we were able to give this young person a chance at a normal family life (well as normal as can be in our house!) and it has been a rewarding time for us because of how well she has adapted. A rewarding time for us and hopefully for the child.”
