Armed Forces Day: Military Families Can Foster Too
On Armed Forces Day we feel it is important to address the common misconception that if you’re a family in the armed forces, fostering is something which seems unreachable. At FCA we believe military families should have an opportunity to make a difference to a child’s life. We have many great stories from FCA families about their experience fostering whilst being in the armed forces.
Here’s what Amanda and James, two of our carers, have to say about their experience of fostering in the army and how they have found their first year.
“Myself and Amanda first got into fostering through Amanda’s mum, who has fostered for many years with FCA in the North East region. As Amanda has always had a lot of experience one on one with foster children growing up, she wanted to follow in her mum’s footsteps once we decided to move to Birmingham and start our fostering journey.
Amanda has taken on the role as the main carer throughout the past year allowing myself to continue fairly uninterrupted with my normal day to day military job. The military themselves have been amazingly supportive offering all the help they could when and as required.
I would certainly recommend any military family to look into fostering as it’s a greatly rewarding career. It’s a great job that you can do anywhere even if you are moving and have different postings in different locations. We have already made so many good friends through becoming part of the FCA family and have had some amazing children come into our lives.”
