Meet foster parent Debbie from the Midlands who has been fostering for 4 years
Debbie, a FCA foster parent from the Midlands shares her fostering highlights and advice for anyone who is considering fostering.
“We always say it’s the best thing we ever did. I would say if someone thinks yes I can do this, then go for it! It’s opened up a whole new world for us.”
Here to support you
All across the Midlands region we have three social work teams, which include social workers, three fostering service managers, a therapist and an associate education officer. We have established teams to support with matching of children and foster parents, engagement and support for children and young people, and the everyday administration tasks associated with fostering a child. Each team is enthusiastic about changing children’s lives and are truly committed to achieving the best outcomes for the children and young people in care.

I am happy with the support I have received from FCA. The training opportunities are great and accessible. I have a lovely working relationship with my supervising social worker, she is very approachable. I am part of the One Carer Household support group which during Covid I felt especially supported as it was quite isolating being at home, it is my go to place to discuss any issues I may have. I also attend other support group meetings. The participation activities are good, my grandson is always invited which is great. It does feel that I am part of an organisation not just a foster parent at home. I do feel really supported and feel there are avenues I can take if I have an issue.

You know that they will help and support you. There is a huge commitment that FCA have to the children and young people in their care. I know I can pick the phone up at any point of the day or night and speak to somebody and they’ve got you back. Even if it's something that you or a young person needs on an individual level, you know that door's open.”
