Behind Kev and Sylvie’s Door

Archived: Posted June 12, 2017

Behind the door lives……..

Myself, Kev, the main carer, my wife Sylvie and our birth son who is 24 years old.  We live in Southampton and currently foster two children, one has lived with us for seven years and the other for three years. We also have a care leaver living with us who has lived with us for eight years.  Lets not forget the other members of our family – two springers, a cocker and a gecko; Dylan, Ted, Ninja and Echo!

The best thing about being a foster carer?

Welcoming children into our home who are scared, frightened and angry. Then see them leave us with self-confidence a good self-esteem and hope for their future.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming foster carer?

Pick up the phone now and make the call, you could make a great foster carer!

What have been your biggest achievements as foster carers?

Our biggest achievement as a foster carer is to see a young person go from 36% attendance at school to 100% attendance move on to college with good GCSE results and to hold down a job.
