Karen and Wayne have been fostering with FCA South Western for over five years and describe the fantastic support they’ve received. With a strong network around them, they’ve witnessed incredible transformations in the children and young people they’ve cared for.

Karen and Wayne are proud parents of two grown-up children who have flown the nest and built successful lives of their own. With Karen’s 20 years of experience as a senior manager for a large retail company and Wayne’s 40-year career in a global role for an international organisation, they’d reached a point in life where new opportunities were calling.

Karen decided to take a 12-month career break, planning to travel and meet Wayne as he continued his work abroad. But like many others, their plans were suddenly put on hold when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

That unexpected pause gave them time to reflect — and it opened the door to something truly life-changing: fostering.

Fostering with FCA South Western

“We’ve been fostering for just over five years now, all with FCA,” Karen explains. “Fostering with FCA is fantastic — so much so, we’ve done a couple of referrals ourselves. You get a brilliant network of people around you, there’s always therapeutic support, and they’re always there when you need them. FCA really is a wonderful agency to work with.”

For Karen and Wayne, there have been many memorable moments, but one stands out.

“We had a little girl placed with us, and it actually gives me goosebumps just talking about her journey,” Karen recalls. “From the moment she arrived to when she left, she became a totally different little girl. Watching that transformation was just incredible.”
