Meet foster parent Georgia from the North East…

Fostering from an early age at 24 years old, Georgia has recently made the transition to transfer to FCA North East having begun her fostering journey with her local authority.

As she reflects upon her fostering journey, she recounts the moment when she decided to leave her job working in a doctor’s surgery to embark on a new career path.

Inspired by the members of her family who were already fostering, it was after speaking to her partner that they had the realisation that nothing was stopping them from making a difference to a vulnerable young person in need, and so decided to go for it!

Her and her partner who have a 6-year-old girl of their own, now look after a sibling group of two on a long-term basis.

“The two siblings came to us short term, however, they settled so well - they are part of the furniture, so we’ve now gone long term with them where they’ll be staying with us until they become young adults.”

When talking about the importance of keeping foster siblings together, Georgia explains: “All they had at first is each other, so keeping them together means the world.”

“From all the 11 children that I’ve looked after, the fostering highlight is hearing the feedback from different professionals saying what a brilliant job myself and my partner are doing because the children are going to school and saying how happy they are.”

“I love being a foster parent because seeing the children change on a daily basis, from when they first arrive with you, to even six weeks down the line, it so rewarding. You are giving them routine, boundaries, and giving them what a young person should have as a child.

When asked what her advice would be to those thinking of fostering, she replied: “100% go for it! It’s life-changing, not only for us as a career, but for the young people in our care. You are making a real difference to their lives”
