LGBT, gender and fostering

We believe that it’s your personal qualities that make you a great foster carer – not your gender or sexual orientation.

LBGT and fostering

Fostering with Pride

At Foster Care Associates, we welcome foster carers from all walks of life and with all sorts of life experiences and personal qualities.

Whether you’re male or female, gay or straight, bisexual or transgender, as long as you’re compassionate and can provide a stable environment for a child or young person, you’ve got what we’re looking for.

We’re proud to have over 50 LGBT families fostering with us and we’d be delighted for you to join us too.

Single men and fostering

A myth that we often hear is that single men can’t foster. We have many successful male foster carers, gay and straight; some are single and others foster as part of a family. A person’s gender does not make the foster carer, their personal qualities do; and men, single or otherwise, make supportive and caring foster carers to looked after children.

If you can provide a stable home, we’ll equip you with the training and support you need to really make a difference. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.

Foster carer stories

We have some incredible foster carers who every day are breaking down the myths about what makes the ideal foster family. Here they share some of their stories with us.

Foster carers Liz and AngelaLiz and Angela

Liz and Angela have been fostering with us for over three years. As a gay couple, they feel they can offer a unique type of understanding to the children and young people they foster, having had to face discrimination in their own lives.

Foster carer DanDan

Dan started fostering with us just over a year ago as a way of taking on a new challenge in his career. He says he has not had any problems regarding his sexuality and has had very positive comments in the way he looks after and cares for his foster child.

Foster carers Martin and LeeMartin and Lee

Cambridgeshire couple Martin and Lee chose Foster Care Associates because of its good reputation and also the support and training available aimed specifically at LGBT carers.
