Youngsters Bowled Over By Brilliant Cricket Event

Core Assets Fostering - MidlandsYoungsters from across the Midlands represented their corner of the region in a fast paced ‘Quick Cricket’ event. The tournament, held as part of a host of half-term activities across the UK, was organised by Core Assets Fostering on Friday 31st, at the Langley Road Recreation Ground.

Over 50 looked after children, birth children, foster carers and staff batted and bowled their very best to bring the coveted Core Assets trophy home. Midlands North and West (the “Googlies”) were victorious after winning two out of two games. Dressed in bright orange the team’s youngest member, J, aged 7, raised the cup in delight for the North West while singing a fantastic rendition of Queen’s “We Are The Champions”.

There were three runners up; teams from Midlands South (the “Spinners”), Midlands Central (the “Central Super Stars”) and Midlands East who all demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and team spirit.

On the day, youngsters also enjoyed garden games, a bouncy castle and face painting. It was a lovely day which brought foster families together in a sunshine picnic and celebratory round of ice creams. The end of the day was marked by releasing balloons – each one had Core Assets Fostering contact details on.

“The quick cricket day was fantastic,” commented Peter Battram, area manager for Midland.

“We’re a big region so it’s wonderful to arrange an event where looked after children and birth children can work as a team, meet new friends and make memories. It’s a treat for staff too who can get to know Midland foster carers on a social level and we all get to see how far looked after children have come, to hear their laughter and realise that what we do is truly making a difference to their lives.

“I’d like to thank the youngsters for their impeccable behaviour and good spirits, foster carers for their on-going enthusiasm and staff for organising such a wonderful event for us all to enjoy.”
