Thames Valley takes on army-style challenge
Archived: Posted July 13, 2015Our Thames Valley team love having fun at family events. But their most recent day out proved tougher than most when a group of brave volunteers from the region were put through their paces at a special survival skills activity.
The army-style event, which took place from 21st to 22nd June, saw six looked after children, foster carer Mike and support worker Brett trek into the woods for an action-packed overnight adventure.
The group spent the night sleeping under the stars, with only rations and energy bars for sustenance. Covered in camo cream, the team had to take it in turns to keep watch over camp; sharing sentry duty and stoking the fire. And as if that wasn’t enough, they also had to tackle a range of training activities including runs, high ropes and rifle shooting!
Our team would like to say a special thanks to D, one of our looked after children, who used his experience as an army cadet as inspiration for the event and worked hard to help organise the activities and ensure everything ran smoothly.
The weekend was a huge success, with the young cadets voting in favour of a repeat event – even though they’ve been warned that next time it won’t be so easy!
