Step on board and start your fostering journey
Archived: Posted June 11, 2015Have you spotted our big pink bus yet?
This Foster Care Fortnight we’re setting off on a journey the length and breadth of the country, inviting people to step on board our bright pink double decker bus as part of our ‘30K foster care challenge’. The Foster Care Associates bus will touring a total of 30,000 miles over the next six months, representing the 30,000 children and young people we’ve placed with foster families since we started out 21 years ago.
With an additional 30,000 children and young people entering the UK care system each year, we need to attract new carers to a profession which will not only change their life for the better, but also have a positive life-changing effect on those children and young people they look after.
The tour kicked off in Plymouth on Saturday 6th June at the Lord Mayor’s Day event, with fun activities for children on board, as well as information and advice offered to anyone who’s interested in fostering.
Sherree Cole, registered manager for Foster Care Associates in our South West region, said: “There is currently a shortage of foster carers in Plymouth and across the South West, and we’re hoping that taking our big pink bus ‘on tour’ will get people talking about fostering, and potentially interested about becoming a carer themselves. In colour psychology pink is the sign of hope, representing compassion and unconditional love as well as being associated with giving and receiving care – all qualities associated with being a foster carer.”
Next stops for the fostering bus include the Three Counties Show in Malvern on 12th, 13th and 14th June, followed by the Lincolnshire Show on 24th and 25th June. See our bus tour calendar to find a stop near you.
