Business Secretary Sajid Javid MP met founders and staff from our parent company, Core Assets, to learn about our pioneering work with looked after children and young people, on a visit to our head office in Bromsgrove.

The Bromsgrove MP was greeted by our founders, former social worker executive chairman Jim Cockburn, and former foster carer Jan Rees, as well as scores of staff who support our national and international network of fostering, adoption and children’s and family services.

During the visit, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills learnt more about our work, as well as how the organisation has grown over the past 20 years and is supporting and sharing best practice in foster care around the world. He was also given an overview of how our parent company is innovating in outsourcing children’s services to improve performance and outcomes for children and young people.

MP Sajid Javid visits Core Assets

As well as providing more than 2,500 high quality foster placements in the UK, many for children and young people with complex needs, Core Assets is also developing family-based foster care in Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Japan, United States, Canada, Australia and New  Zealand, where many children in care end up in costly institutions, motels and hotels resulting in poorer life chances and opportunities.

Mr Javid said: “I was very impressed to learn more about Core Assets. The organisation’s commitment to sharing best practice was very evident, both in its work with the public sector in the UK and in the pioneering work it is doing overseas”.

Our executive chairman, Jim Cockburn, said: “It was good to meet Mr Javid to explain the full range of services that we now deliver and to discuss our proven track record of working with Government and local authorities to deliver positive outcomes for children, young people and families, and also highlight some of the barriers to partnering with the public sector that still exist. We look forward to a continued dialogue with him as we drive forward best practice in care for looked after children, not just in the UK but around the world.”
