North East Foster Carer Works Magic on Wheels

Archived: Posted June 28, 2013

A kind-hearted foster carer is taking part in a gruelling bike challenge in aid of a magical children’s charity.

Lesley Thompson, from the North East, will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in August to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The challenge, which will see Lesley covering a whopping 930 miles in 9 days, will be helping the charity to grant once-in-a-lifetime experiences to children and young people with life threatening conditions.

“This may be my last fundraising event,” jokes Lesley. “I’m getting too old! I’ve never really been a cyclist but I now have a wonderful road bike and all the gear. I must be either daft or not very good at maths, because I’ll be cycling just over 100 miles each day for 9 days!”

“We all have mountains to climb in life, but the Make-A-Wish Foundation gives children with life-limiting conditions and their families the chance to make their own special memories. And that’s what life is about – creating memories.”
