North East Carer Named ‘Champion Mum’

Archived: Posted February 25, 2014

Linda foster carer 2Congratulations to Linda, one of our foster carers from the North East, who has been named Champion Parent at the Newcastle Chronicle Community Champion Awards. Linda picked up the coveted award in honour of her dedication to fostering.

Since joining us 20 years ago, she’s single-handedly cared for more than 100 young people at the same time as raising her own children. Linda said: “I was crying all the way down to pick my award up. I am really honoured and it’s just overwhelming.”

Linda was nominated by her supervising social worker Sandie, from our Seaton office. Reflecting on why Linda deserves the award, Sandie says “She is very creative in her approach, non-judgmental and most of all passionate about helping young people, which shines through in all the children she has looked after.

“Fostering runs through Linda’s veins and she is always keen to help as many young people as she can”, Sandie continues. “She has always given each child a fair chance and refuses to turn anyone away. She has helped young people when their family have been in hospital and acted as an advocate for teenagers by encouraging them to continue their education.

“Linda and her husband Ian are very much a team but Ian is always quick to praise Linda and sees her in the crucial lead role in fostering. A child presenting challenging behaviours doesn’t faze her – in fact she relishes the chance to make a positive difference to the young people’s lives.

“Linda is an unsung hero and without people like Linda many of these children wouldn’t have had the chances that they have had in life.”

Linda – you’re an inspiration to us all.
