Our new Londonderry office officially opened this month which will provide valuable support in developing fostering services in the North West of Northern Ireland.

Principal Social Worker, John Doherty, welcomed visitors and the Mayor to the official opening, and talked about how important it is that there is ongoing support for FCA foster carers, and children and young people in need of foster care, in the North West.

Foster Care Associates opnes new Derry office

The new offices on Pennyburn Industrial Estate were officially opened by Derry foster carers Liam and Marianne Gallagher who have been fostering with Foster Care Associates for 10 years.  The couple received recognition for their dedication to fostering from the FCA Northern Ireland team and Derry Mayor Brenda Stevenson, who attended the opening along with Sinn Fein MLA Maeve McLaughlin, Chair of NI Assembly for Health and Social Services and Mark Durkan, SDLP MP for Foyle Constituency.

At the event, Ms McLaughlin was keen to gather information in relation to Foster Care Associates’ unique support of Team Parenting in Northern Ireland and welcomed any further meetings in the future, either in Stormont or her Foyle Constituency offices.

Feargal O’Keefe, regional manager for FCA Northern Ireland, said: “Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. We have some amazing people caring for children and young people in Derry and the North West and this new regional office will ensure that those local to the area benefit from the support we have to offer whenever they need it.

“There is an urgent need for more foster carers in Derry. We are actively looking for responsible, nurturing adults who have a spare room and can give children and young people in need of a foster home the support they need to thrive and grow.”
