Looked After Learners Triumph with Exam Success

Hand up 2Foster children in our care are celebrating success after achieving excellent results in their GCSE and A levels.

We’re proud to announce that young people in our care have achieved excellent results this year, far surpassing the national average attainment levels for looked after children.

24% of young people in our care across England achieved A*-C in Maths and English, compared to 15% nationally. And a whopping 90% of our young people in Wales passed their GCSEs, exceeding the 39% national average. In Northern Ireland, our 67% average pass rate also topped the 43% average.

David Oldham, chief executive officer, commented:

“Thanks to our staff and the huge commitment of our foster carers, we are proud to announce this year’s GCSE and A level results.

“Research indicates that achievement for children in care is far lower than children who live with their birth families. Being able to grow up in a stable and secure family environment is vital for young people and a key ingredient to their educational success.”

David continues: “All of our regions have a team of education officers that help to maintain the fostering placement by supporting the family and making a bridge with the school and social work staff. Education officers can support with transition if children are changing schools, issues around behaviour, attendance and even one to one tuition and alternative education provision.

“Well done to the young people who have worked diligently to fulfil their academic potential. We’re hugely proud of their achievements and extend a big thank you to all our carers for their unswerving commitment to provide safe and nurturing family homes.”
