London and Kent fostering team get physical for National Fitness Day

Staff from our London and Kent region, including social workers and the support team, descended on our Sutton office to mark National Fitness Day earlier this month.

Donning their Lycra and running shoes, the team, led by regional marketing co-ordinator Maria Gabriels, warmed up with star jumps before embarking on a competitive running challenge to win a sports bag packed with health related items, including a magazine, bottle of water and a health bar. Office manager Geraldine Turner was the fastest off the blocks and raced home to claim first prize, a testament to the weekly running schedule she has recently been following.

Maria Gabriels said: “Organising activities to support National Fitness Day proved to be a great initiative to bring staff together, and promote the benefits of fitness and well-being. As anyone who looks after a child or young person will tell you it can be difficult to keep up with the abundance of energy they often display.

“As a fostering provider we want to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to all our carers and staff, and the resulting positive effects it can have on the children and young people in our care. The next big challenge is getting more of our staff, as well as our carers and young people, to run in our local park run!”
