It was a spectacular sight as 10 superminis took over the centre of Glasgow to boost the profile of fostering on Monday 12th May.

Staff and carers from FCA were positioned at St Enoch’s Square and in front of the Royal Concert Hall in Buchanan Street to answer questions from the public about a rewarding career in fostering and to offer advice and guidance about taking the next step.

According to charity the Fostering Network, which organises Foster Care Fortnight, there is currently a shortfall of 850 foster carers in Scotland and there is an urgent need for more resilient and compassionate carers who can offer vulnerable children and young people a stable home to come forward.

Head of FCA Scotland Jo Derrick said: “We had a great time in Glasgow speaking to the public about what a fantastically rewarding career fostering can be.

“Hopefully we have inspired people in Glasgow to seriously consider becoming a foster carer and making a massive difference to the lives of young people in their area.”

Jo added: “Foster carers come from all walks of life and have all kinds of transferable skills. From pilots and police officers to barristers and bricklayers, you could provide the safety and stability a young person desperately needs to thrive.

“Many people are too quick to focus on why they can’t foster when they should be thinking about why they can foster.”
