Fun at the Wildlife Park in Doncaster

Archived: Posted June 19, 2013

Core Assets Fostering - Y&LCarers, staff, looked after children and birth children got together recently to spend the day at Doncaster Wildlife Park. Here’s how it went…

Well this is our third visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park – we last visited in April 2011 so we’re practically regulars!

This time round there were carers, staff and looked after children who were all really excited to be spending a day at the wildlife park. As it’s really local to us in Doncaster we all met at the park at 10.30am. Lots of carers brought their own picnics as there are loads of places to sit and eat and some bought lunch from the various cafes.

The park has really expanded with lots more to see including tigers, giraffes, leopards, a walk-through South American plain in which the animals (especially the monkeys) are really close and more recently they’ve opened an area with lots of baboons. The huge indoor playbarn area is great for the kids too.

The baboons were trying to pull up one of the plants; taking it in turns to have a go – we certainly wouldn’t want them in our gardens!!

There was great debate amongst the social workers as to whether one of the animals was crossed between a rabbit and a dog! (It’s actually a capybara!).

It had rained the previous day, but was fine for us on the day. One carers’ 2½ year old son had his all-in-one waterproofs on and spent his time running through all the puddles! He was too shy to have his photo taken though!

It was a lovely, relaxing day where everyone had fun together and there was plenty to see and do. Most people stayed for majority of the day and started to drift away about 3.30pm onwards; ready for a cup of tea and a sit down!

It’s something we’ll definitely do again as it is a good day out & local too!
