Archived: Posted August 14, 2015

More than 600 children from across the UK and abroad pitched their football skills at a tournament hosted by our parent company,  international children’s services organisation, Core Assets.

The annual event, which was held at Nottingham University on August 9th and 10th, welcomed over 1,200 foster carers, staff and children who travelled from across the UK, Ireland and as far afield as Finland, Sweden and Canada to participate.

Over 60 teams took part over the weekend from our different FCA regions, as well as from companies across the globe, including Core Assets Children’s Services, Fostering First Ireland, Fostering People, PKS (Finland), Key Assets Sweden and Key Assets Canada.

On the final whistle, these were the winning teams take home the trophy:

Core Assets, which has hosted the children’s football tournament for the last 12 years, uses the event to help encourage camaraderie and team spirit among foster children, who can sometimes find it hard to integrate with other young people.

Hefin Daniels, Children’s Services manager for Cymru, who organised the tournament, said: “Every year everyone is overwhelmed by the enthusiasm, talent and sheer determination the young people demonstrate and this year was no exception. The team spirit this year was infectious. The tournament aims to encourage young people to develop social, communication and team working skills as well as helping them to be more active, embrace healthy competition and interact with different peer groups.

“This year’s event was our most successful yet with more than 60 teams from across the country and overseas taking part over the weekend. We were especially pleased to welcome teams from Key Assets Canada and Sweden who flew in teams specifically for the event.”
