Foster carers show support to help raise £10,000 for Diabetes UK

Staff and foster carers from one of South Wales’ leading independent fostering agencies donned their black ties and cocktail dresses to attend a James Bond themed charity ball raising nearly £10,000 for Diabetes UK.

Foster Care Associates (FCA) Cymru South were one of the sponsors for the event held at St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay, which was partly organised by FCA’s carer recruitment officer Nicola Matthews.  In January 2015 her cousin Peter Baldwin passed away due to undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetes.  Since then Peter’s mum Beth, Dad Stuart and sister Lia have hosted various fundraising activities to raise awareness of the condition and the importance of early diagnosis.

Commenting Nicola Matthews, from FCA Cymru South, said: “The Ball was an incredible success taking the total the family has raised over two years for Diabetes UK to nearly £65,000.  Peter’s mum Beth tirelessly campaigns and with the support of local businesses and charities is making a big difference here in Wales, liaising with Welsh Government to ensure all policies and procedures in relation to this debilitating condition are being carried out.”

The Baldwin family also received a Director’s Award at the Ball from Diabetes UK for their dedication. For more information about their future fundraising events visit the Remembrance of Peter Baldwin Facebook page.
