Foster carer gets on his bike to raise money in memory of close friend

An intrepid foster carer from Holyhead is embarking on a London to Paris bike ride to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, after the sudden death of his close friend and fellow-foster carer.

Foster carer Phil Tracey, raising money for The Brain Tumour CharityPhil Tracey is already in training for the fundraising ride which will take place next April.  He will join other foster carers and staff from our North Wales team to complete the 250 mile journey over three days.

Commenting on his fundraising Phil said: “My good friend Phil Sargent was unexpectedly diagnosed with a tumour of the brain in May of this year, and sadly suddenly passed away in July.  He is greatly missed by all that knew him, not only as a friend and respected foster carer, but also for his kindness and ever helpful nature.

“I have fundraised for various charities over the past 10 years but decided to dedicate my fundraising for the London to Paris bike ride to The Brain Tumour Charity and to Phil’s memory, as little is known about what triggers these tumours.”

Phil’s fundraising efforts began earlier this year when he took part in the Llandudno Sea Triathlon, which involved a 750m sea swim, 20k bike ride circuiting two laps of The Great Orme, and a 5k bike run.

Sandra Jones, registered manager for FCA Cymru North, said: “Phil Sargent was an incredible, highly respected and popular foster carer amongst his peers. We’re so proud that our foster carers and staff who knew him want to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity in his memory and we will provide them with all the support they need to ensure they hit their fundraising total!”

For a minimum donation of £10 Phil is also giving anyone who sponsors him the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one week’s, accommodation only, holiday in Fuerteventura, to be taken after April 26 when the draw will take place. Donations and sponsorship can be made by visiting Phil’s Just Giving page.
