Foster carer embarks on cycle challenge from London to Brighton

Archived: Posted September 16, 2015

One of our intrepid foster carers, together with his 15 year-old foster child (DP), has completed a London to Brighton cycle challenge in aid of charity PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis) support.

Peter Hopkins and DP, who live in Slough, embarked on the journey from Clapham Common to raise money for the little known charity that seek to raise funds and increase awareness for the chronic liver condition it represents.

On completion of the London to Brighton cycle challenge they received medals and certificates. Foster carer, Peter Hopkins said: ‘’The wife of a friend of mine suffers with this debilitating condition of liver, so I wanted to do something to help raise awareness.  As soon as DP, my foster child, heard about the challenge he wanted to help too, and joined me training.

“Nothing could have beat the huge grin on DP’s face when we reached the finish point. Although we had a very early start on Sunday, it was so worthwhile.  We both had a fantastic day cycling all the way from London to Brighton in aid of such a good cause.’’

Wayne Oldham, Peter’s supervising social worker from Foster Care Associates, said:  “Peter is an example of the incredible lengths many of our foster carers go to involve both themselves and the young people they look after in charity and community initiatives.  We’re all extremely proud of Peter and DP!”
