Fluttering to the Finish Line

Core Assets Fostering - EasternBack in March we told you about Cat Foley, our supervising social worker with Eastern, who was preparing to run the London Marathon in fancy dress to raise money for the East African Playgrounds charity. Cat said:

“The purpose of this event is so I can raise as much money as possible to buy playground equipment for a community in Uganda through a UK charity called East African Playgrounds. Play is a crucial part of a child`s development. Unfortunately, not all children in the world have the opportunity to embrace play in a safe environment. By raising money to fund this playground project, we can help give children this opportunity.”

On Sunday 21st April, dressed as a beautiful butterfly, Cat completed the marathon in an amazing 5hrs 8mins 40secs! We think you’ll all agree she did brilliantly despite having to battle round with the crowds of other runners. She even managed a TV interview with the BBC!

After two hours Cat got to the half way mark and carried on to 18 miles before having to slow down and shuffle the rest of the way round due to a hip injury.

Cat said “The whole route was lined with spectators and I managed to see all my friends and family which was fantastic! Along the way there were steel bands, bagpipe players and people having parties on flat balconies! Thanks again for all your sponsorship and helping me go beyond my target!”

Cat has managed to raise £1,200 so far, but it doesn’t stop there…

“That’s another challenge off my wish list, now time to start thinking about the next!”

Well done Cat – we’re really proud of you!
