Finding room to foster at Mansfield Museum

Archived: Posted December 16, 2015

The team from our Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region have built a mock bedroom in the Mansfield Museum as part of our campaign to recruit more people in the area to become foster carers.

The bedroom, which includes a bed, wardrobe and drawers, aims to demonstrate how little physical space is needed to foster a child. While the campaign, called ‘Finding Room to Foster’ draws on the moments when foster carers found room for a young person in their life – both physically and emotionally.

Alan Wood, fostering services manager for FCA in Mansfield, said: “We’ve been working with children and young people for 21 years and our experience shows that a young person is much more likely to thrive within a foster family. The one-to-one support and stable environment can help them to overcome their issues and deal with their past.

“We have some fabulous foster carers, but we urgently need more. We hope our ‘Finding Room to Foster’ event will encourage more people in the region to make room in their life and seriously consider becoming a foster carer, and the rewards it can offer.”

The FCA fostering team will be on hand at the Mansfield Museum to answer questions and provide information about what’s involved to foster a child. The bedroom will be on display until Monday 4th January.
