Find out about fostering in the North East

Archived: Posted March 30, 2015

At Foster Care Associates we really enjoy talking to people about fostering and having the chance to dispell some of the myths about who can be a foster carer. (And there are lots of myths about fostering!) One of the best way to do this we find is to get out and about in the local community as much as possible, and be on hand to provide people with information about fostering.

Why foster?Up on Teeside, we’re going to be hosting monthly fact-finding events in Stockton and Redcar for people who are interested in becoming a foster carer and would like to know more about the process and what’s involved.

In Stockton, we’ll be at Elm Tree Community Centre on the last Wednesday of every month between 11am and 1pm. While in Redcar, you’ll find us at Coatham Memorial Hall on the first Tuesday of every month, from 10am to 1pm.

At both, you’ll find our Teesside team on hand with a wealth of information about fostering and the extensive support that we offer to our carers. We will be discussing the many factors that make up an ideal candidate – everything from being adaptable, resilient and nurturing to being a good listener and flexible in response to a young person’s needs.

It is a great opportunity to come and speak to us if you have any questions and you will be able to hear first-hand from our current foster carers about what life is like fostering children and young people.

Our foster carers are just normal people who are doing incredible things and improving these young people’s lives.

According to a recent report from the Department of Education, there are more than 4,250 children in local authority care in the North East. Foster Care Associates want to hear from potential foster families who are keen to make a difference and provide a safe and stable home to young people in the region in 2015.

If you can’t make these events and would like to find out more about fostering, please send us an enquiry or call us freephone on 0800 434 6000.
