FCA Team Show Pedal Power for Charity Fundraiser

FCA Wales bike rideA group of FCA staff and foster carers have set the wheels in motion for a two-day cycle challenge in aid of a care-leavers charity.

The team of 14 cyclists will ride over 130 miles from North Wales to the West Midlands in a bid to raise funds for the Rees Foundation; an independent charity dedicated to supporting care leavers and adults with care experience.

Setting off from our Abergele office on 16th September, the team will be collecting more cyclists en route at Wrexham, Shrewsbury and Dudley before arriving in Bromsgrove the following day.

The sponsored cycle is part of a much bigger fundraising initiative, which will see the team gearing up to tackle Africa’s highest peak in February 2015.

David Harcourt, an FCA National Foster Carer Forum rep, is leading the challenge. “In February 2015, several FCA carers and staff, myself included, will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Rees Foundation.

“With this feat comes a huge fundraising challenge, as each participant has to raise more than £4,000. To try and achieve that, we’ve been organising a range of money-raising activities. We’ve arranged everything from pop-up restaurants and charity karaoke nights to sponsored abseils, but we are constantly looking for more opportunities to raise more money and awareness of our goal.

Since organising the event, David has had an overwhelming response but is still encouraging more staff and foster carers to get involved.

“This isn’t a race – it’s a real team effort,” says David. “And we’d like as many people as possible to get involved. Even if you don’t ride, we’d still love some encouragement along the way.”

The team will set off from the Abergele office on the North Wales Business Park at 8am on Tuesday and are expected to arrive at the FCA Headquarters at Malvern View, Saxon Business Park, Hanbury Road, Bromsgrove, at 4pm on Wednesday, where they’ll be greeted by FCA co-founder Jan Rees, who also established the Rees Foundation, to celebrate their achievement.
