Easter At Eastern Is So Much Fun!

Archived: Posted April 24, 2013

Core Assets Fostering - EasternCore Assets Fostering Eastern region had loads going on during the Easter break. Even though the weather wasn’t great, despite the cold (and even a snow storm) everyone managed to have a great time.

Here’s what they got up to…

“We began the first week of the school holidays visiting Africa Alive in Norfolk, Tropical Wings in Essex and then Hammerton Zoo in Peterborough. We’d do short bursts of going out to see the animals and then have to warm ourselves up in the butterfly farm or indoor play area – Brrrr!

Many species of carer, support worker and even an occasional lesser spotted social worker were seen grazing in a nearby café, only to be sent out into the cold again by some enthusiastic young person.

On the second week it did warm up (a bit). We went to Diggerland in Essex, which is a wonderful park full of JCB rides and activities. This was a very relaxing activity because the area was so secure that the young people were able to be themselves and were free to explore.

Our support worker, who wishes to remain anonymous, was beaten at JCB skittles by an eight year old. He’s still trying to live it down but for the eight year old it will be a day to remember – not to mention a hold over Rob forever (oops, sorry the name slipped out!)

For our final activity of the week, we went skiing and tubing in Peterborough and did the same down in Norfolk. We had around 100 people attend the skiing and the Africa Alive activity which was a fabulous turnout.

But the great success of the day was when one of our young people, who’d never been skiing before, was found to have a natural talent, so much so that the instructors persuaded him to try a more difficult ski slope and encouraged him further, recommending that he should follow this through with more ski lessons.

This is why these activities are so important; we need to give our young people new experiences and new challenges to enjoy and explore – and that’s exactly what we did this Easter.

So roll on the summer because we’re really looking forward to our next adventure!”
