Wendy and Mike Robins from Bredon in Tewkesbury have been foster carers with Foster Care Associates (FCA) for 20 years. This year the couple have decided to take some time for themselves and retire to the seaside.IMG_1619

The couple have welcomed a number of young people into their home and their lives over the last 20 years, after being first introduced to fostering by Wendy’s sister who has now been a foster carer for more than 40 years, and they have never looked back.

Reflecting on their time as foster carers Wendy sums up their experience as rewarding.  She said: ‘’We have thoroughly enjoyed our time fostering. The experience has been both really challenging at times yet so rewarding. We have had some really tough times and gone through some sad moments, but we’ve had many more happy times and memories which make the whole experience so worth it.

‘’Watching the children you care for blossom and grow into mature young people is the best feeling in the world. Knowing that we have played a significant role in their happiness and future is something that we will always cherish. “

Wendy and Mike were first introduced to FCA by Richard Brandford, service manager for carer retention and welfare.  He said: ‘‘I still remember the first time I met Mike and Wendy. I knew then that they had the potential to become brilliant foster carers. And so they did – over the past 20 years they have made such a positive difference to the lives of so many children and young people. I can’t thank them enough for their service and their commitment both to FCA and those in their care. I wish them a long happy retirement.’’

Wendy continues: ‘’If I had to offer any advice to people thinking about fostering or new carers I would tell them to do the best they can do. If they give as much love and as much attention as possible then they can’t really go wrong!”

The couple plan to retire in West Bay, Dorset where they have spent many happy summer holidays with their foster children in their caravan by the seaside. Wendy and Mike are both really looking forward to spending their days fishing and taking some time to themselves.
