Celebrating Our Social Workers

Archived: Posted December 18, 2014

Our social workers are fantastic. They’re always there for our foster carers and work incredibly hard to improve the lives of looked after children and young people.

In fact, without their support we simply wouldn’t be able to place children and young people with supportive foster families.

That’s why we decided to celebrate their role and invest in their further development by hosting our very own Christmas social work bazaar. Over 140 social workers from England, Wales and Northern Ireland attended the event, which was held in Bromsgrove between 1st and 5th December.

Our social workers started their day with a visit to FCA’s head office in Bromsgrove – on a vintage red double decker bus! Whilst there, they experienced stalls packed with information on all aspects of FCA, from finance to IT, to give them a better understanding of how different departments can help aid their daily work with foster carers and young people.

They also had the chance to participate in a series of workshops, presentations and group exercises. These included inspiring talks from care leavers about the importance of a social worker in a young person’s life and  a training session on updates from Ofsted, our governing body, which was held to reinforce the importance of quality practice.

We’ve received fantastic feedback from the event, with one social worker saying, “I want to say a big thank you for the event as it was brilliant. I have come away not only with more knowledge but also feeling more motivated and inspired to make a positive and lasting difference to the children and young people we work with. So thank you.”

The bazaar is just one of the many opportunities for development we offer our staff and demonstrates the robust support provided by our FCA family as we continually strive to improve our services for carers, children and young people.
