First fostering placements: Take that massive leap

The Form F process complete, off to panel we went. Our approval was granted, 3 placements from 0-18. We went home happy and relaxed, and a little relieved that the process has come to a conclusion.

Then came a massive surprise to us. Later that day, we had a telephone call from the placements team, a young person needed a respite place for 10 days. We said yes. The young person arrived the next day.

No amount of preparation completely prepares you for the feeling of waiting for a young person to arrive. Arrive they did and the next ten days flew past, it was all over so quickly and was such great fun. We were lucky enough to have the same young person return for another short stay a couple of weeks later.

The process is very, very thorough, and the placements teams are excellent at understanding what type of placement will work within your family. I recommend that you place your trust in the teams, and take that massive leap into your first placement. It’s is a privilege to be on such an amazing journey with these young people.
