Animal Antics – Easter Days Out in the North West

Archived: Posted May 22, 2015

Our North West team enjoyed a few fun days out with our looked after children, carers and their families over the Easter break.

22 of our foster families joined us on a trip to Old Holly Farm organised by one of our support workers from the local office in Carnforth. The farm is a family-run, working organic dairy farm and the staff there are passionate about giving children (and adults alike) the opportunity to see, touch, smell, hear and taste the experience of a real working farm.

The group also enjoyed a party style buffet lunch where the children tucked into nuggets, sausages, chips and beans before heading off to meet the animals, tour the milking parlour and have a play session in the barn. To round off the day, they sampled the scrummy homemade ice cream.

“We love to give all who are part of our local foster families’ new experiences, but most importantly the day was about having fun, eating well and learning through play,” added our support worker.

AquariumAs well as this, a further 70 carers and young people from the region headed out for an amazing, fun and educational trip to the great Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port.

There they saw an abundance of weird and wonderful creatures at the aquarium, which has one of Europe’s largest collections of big sharks. The young people ventured inside the mysterious coral cave, spotted a variety of fascinating fish in the flooded forest exhibit and identified numerous sharks from the moving walkway in the spectacular underwater 70m aqua tunnel.

The trip was put together by our amazing team support worker from our regional office in Middleton, who said, “The young explorers loved the amazing outdoor adventure Pirate Playground with its shipwreck, slides, monkey bars and crocodiles. They had so much fun they didn’t want to leave!”

At FCA, we want to give all children and young people in our care the opportunity to meet one another and form friendships based on their experiences. Days out like this are organised by local teams who are passionate about creating lasting memories for everyone involved in fostering with FCA. Events like this are also great for the wider family involved in fostering, such as birth children and grandparents.

What our carers their families said:

“Thanks for the good day out at Holly Farm, my grandson loved the little chicks and the tractors in the play pen.”

“Just a quick thank you for the two great day trips this Easter holiday. We don’t always remember to let you know how much we have appreciated your efforts but we do!”
