Mandy’s story

Archived: Posted October 4, 2016

With a career history spanning hotel management, training and regional sales, full-time foster carer Mandy has had plenty of experience of developing training courses. Since joining Foster Care Associates North East, she’s been able to use these transferable skills to help pass on her fostering knowledge to others.

“I’ve had three different careers and this one is by far the most rewarding,” says Mandy. “Before becoming a foster carer I spent six years as a company trainer and Foster Care Associates encourages me to use this experience to contribute to the learning and development of other carers.”

“I now run workshops on the Training, Support and Development Standards that all new carers have to complete within their first year. I also run workshops on completing fostering records using a weekly online reporting tool or mobile app.

“I enjoy being at home and working with children and young people, but whilst they are at school this allows me to work in a professional office and do something that I enjoy, as well as networking and helping others.

“I believe in life-long learning and have undertaken my CACHE Level 3 Diploma Children and Young People’s Workforce, which was funded by FCA and worth 65 credits in the National Qualifications and Credit Framework. The same course is offered at my local college for £1,400!

“Since becoming a foster carer, I’ve never looked back. I’m proud to say that I work for FCA North East.”

You’d be amazed how many of the skills you’ve built-up at work are transferrable to a career as a foster carer. To find out more about this rewarding career, please get in touch with us.
