Anthony-and-Lee---Hertfordshire1

Anthony and Lee, civil partners from Hertfordshire, began fostering in 2011 and see a bright future ahead as they continue to look after children and young people in need of a safe and happy home.

Both Anthony and Lee have worked in corporate environments that require patience, discipline and forward thinking and it is these skills combined with their innate ability to understand, empathise and recognise the needs of children that makes them great foster carers.

“We’ve always wanted children in our lives and recognised that there are so many vulnerable children and young people in desperate need of a stable family setting. We wanted to give foster children the chance to live in a home where they are encouraged to achieve their goals and feel a sense of belonging,” explains Anthony.

As carers with FCA, the couple benefit from a 24 hour support service which includes on-going advice, guidance, training and support from a network of professionals.

Anthony continues: “We joined FCA because of the additional support they had to offer. The application process was painless and despite our concerns there were no issues with our sexuality,”

“We are no different from any other carers but some children benefit more from living with a same sex couple, especially if they have issues with one gender.”

FCA offers training to all its carers, providing them with the skills and knowledge so that they are fully equipped to carry out the fostering task and look after foster children with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

“Anyone thinking about becoming a carer with FCA, gay or straight, should go for it. Although fostering is a challenge, the rewards are huge,”
