The UK courts will often remand a child or young person into care rather than to the custody of a young offenders unit if they have been charged with an offence but are waiting for a trial.
This type of remand placement is usually only a few weeks long, but it can be challenging. However, foster care in these situations can make a really positive difference to a young person. The stability and security of a foster home has been found to reduce the likelihood of a child re-offending, as well as going a long way to reducing peer pressure. It’s also an opportunity for some much needed one-to-one support.
Experience working in the justice system can really benefit you here, but it’s not a necessity as we will provide expert training and support.
