Local Foster Carers Receive Long Service Award

March 12, 2009

A husband and wife team from Connahs Quay have been recognised for their unswerving contribution to fostering, having notched up five years long service with Foster Care Associates (FCA) North Wales.

Helen and Lee MacLennan received their award at a celebratory event held earlier this month. Organised by FCA North Wales, the couple were commended on the enormous support and commitment they have given to looking after children and young people who need to be cared for.

Although it hasn't been an easy journey, Helen and Lee claim the rewards far outweigh all the hard work. They commented: "Being a foster carer can sometimes be a really challenging role but just to see these children overcome many emotional hurdles makes it so worthwhile."

"Working with FCA we have all the back-up needed to do the job and the reassurance that a team of professionals are just a phone call away. We are thrilled to receive this award which is a great boost to our confidence and the role we play in helping to shape a positive future for the children and young people we care for"

Stevie Thomas, interim operational director at FCA North Wales said: "Helen and Lee have shown such determination in providing the best possible foster care, they are a credit to FCA and the work in which the organisation carries out.

"We are proud to have such wonderful carers and hope that they will continue to work with us for many years to come."
