Fostering in Aberdeen

Thank you for visiting our page on fostering in Aberdeen. You might have been giving a lot of thought to becoming a foster carer before reading this or you may just be interested to find out more. Read on to learn about fostering with FCA and the approach we take.

If you live in Aberdeen or the surrounding area then the office in Aberdeen is your nearest local office. With 80 FCA office locations around the country this one is also the main office for fostering in Aberdeenshire.

Working towards positive outcomes

At FCA our main aim is to produce positive outcomes for children and young people in care and we do this by providing our foster carers with ‘wrap around’ support so that they are better equipped and able to support the young people they look after.

This ‘wrap around’ support is available in the form of our Team Parenting® approach. It involves the skills of a small team of experts in the field of childcare (from a therapist and education officer to a Children and Young Persons Service Support (CYPSS) worker and FCA assigned social worker). They offer their guidance and advice to foster carers and the children in their care.

Positive outcomes are also encouraged by foster carers, their families and looked after children engaging in locally organised activities and events within the community. Attending regular group meetings for carers is also useful and another form of support we offer.

Learn more

Fostering is about more than just giving up your spare room, it requires a lot of strength, patience and understanding as well as many other traits. Visit our website to find out who can become a foster carer as well as things like training, frequently asked questions and the kind of fees and paid respite we offer too.

Reading the personal carer stories or watching our interviews with local carers is one of the best ways to learn about how fostering can change lives for the better and how the support services that FCA provide can help to bring about positive changes for vulnerable children living in care.
