FCA foster carer volunteers in Cambodia

July 25, 2011

In March this year, a carer fostering in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire with FCA set off for Cambodia on a volunteer scheme.

Claire Pedley and her brother Jamie were in Cambodia for three weeks, teaching English as a foreign language. After completing their Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification, the pair put their skills into practice, teaching groups of children and young people in school aged between 12 and 19 years old.

Raising money to help children in Cambodia

To pay for their travel and accommodation, Claire and Jamie were engaged in all kinds of fundraising activities. These included manning car boot sales, baking and selling cakes, and holding raffles to raise the necessary funds.

Claire managed to raise an incredible £2500 which not only paid for the cost of their trip but also for stationery items, educational posters and sports equipment for the school.

Since returning home, Claire has carried on helping these children and young people wherever she can. She has sent educational books, DVDs, and more sports equipment out to Cambodia, and is planning to raise further funds for the school and its pupils who have become very close to her heart.

Could you help our Leeds foster carer?

Claire’s next mission is to provide uniforms to each of the 107 pupils she has worked with and she is now collecting any school uniforms that people would be happy to donate.

If you would like to donate any school uniforms or help Claire with her cause in any way, please contact the FCA Leeds office and we will make sure they are passed on to our determined and intrepid foster carer!
