FCA Western Celebrate National Refugee Week
June 17, 2010

FCA Western today (17th June) hosted an event to celebrate National Refugee Week 14th-20th June. Organised by Keith Tilley, Sanctuary Seeking Champion for FCA Western, the event was to celebrate the positive effects of people seeking sanctuary in the UK and to raise awareness of sanctuary seeking children and young people who are fleeing desperate situations.
FCA Western staff and carers were treated to an African drumming performance and the group were joined by the more musical members of staff and even some passers-by had a go! A range of delicious Indian food was provided by Jay Bhinder in the placements team and a series of short films were shown about how people can welcome people seeking sanctuary in their own communities.
FCA Western also used the opportunity to pledge their support for Bristol City of Sanctuary, a movement to build a culture of hospitality for people seeking sanctuary in the UK. Forward Maisokwadzo, Development Worker for Bristol City of Sanctuary, presented FCA Western with a certificate which demonstrates FCA Western’s pledge of support for the movement in Bristol.
