For Foster Care Fortnight 2010, two members of the FCA Western team are cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats. We're following their journey, which has made its way to Collumpton.
DAY 4: A visit to Cullompton
A stirring of excitement at the FCA Cullompton office arose as the team awaited the arrival of Chris and Morris, and a special visit from the Mayor.
Handing out flags and waving to passers by, FCA staff members played their role in raising awareness of fostering in Devon, fostering in Dorset and fostering in Cornwall, as well as generating support for Chris and Morris’ mammoth efforts.
“The locals looked on and stared bewilderingly at the lycra-clad oddities in the midst of their lovely little town,” describes Morris. “We were really pleased to see the Mayor there. After photographs were taken, we were rousingly cheered on our way, and thoughts soon turned to Bristol tomorrow and the expectancy of something grand to welcome the guys back to their home city!
“What a day: sunshine, warmth and beautiful, undulating countryside! Great Britain in springtime is hard to beat. We pushed on at a steady pace, passing into Somerset and onto the FCA Taunton Office. Cream teas from the Parent and Child Training Group were gladly accepted before we hauled our full bellies back onto the bikes.
“By now the roads were flat and the Somerset levels saw our pace quicken towards our home city of Bristol. As we got closer more and more familiar sites came and went. Local knowledge saw us taking a sneaky cross country route through Ashton Court and up to Brunnel's finest. We stopped at the famous bridge and wondered what the great man himself would have thought of our exploits!”
