Consider fostering in Cornwall

If you’ve been thinking about the idea of becoming a foster carer for some time and have decided you would like to know more then read on to discover how fostering in the South West works.

With local offices based in 80 locations around the country, FCA is now the largest Fostering Agency run independently in the UK. We have a proven approach to fostering which involves providing a close network of support for foster carers to enable them to best look after the children and young people in their care.

Our office in Bodmin is the local office for surrounding areas for example for fostering in Truro, Redruth, Penzance and also for Newquay, Padstow and St Austell.

Through on-going and relevant training as well as practical help and guidance in the form of regular support group meetings for carers and the opportunity to attend organised activities and events, fostering becomes a fully supported career for those who want to create positive outcomes for children living in care.

How we work

Fostering is a huge topic that no doubt raises many questions for people at the start of the fostering process. Reading the useful information available on our website will answer many of your initial queries as well as providing you with specific details such as what kind of allowances you can expect when you become a foster carer with FCA, the process involved and the fact that we provide paid respite and on-going local training to equip foster carers with the relevant skills and knowledge to help them.

We also provide a team of childcare experts such as an FCA social worker assigned to each foster carer, therapist, education officer and Children and Young Persons Support Service (CYPSS) worker to offer help and guidance on a regular basis. This type of ‘wrap around’ support is called the Team Parenting® approach and has been proven to be highly beneficial to foster carers in achieving better outcomes for looked after children and young people too.
