FCA’s key fostering facts and figures reflect our drive to deliver quality fostering placements, our impressive fostering placement stability, and our local support infrastructure.

Local Fostering Support

  • FCA has over 80 offices across the UK, providing local support services to foster carers and young people.

Foster Care Placements

  • There are currently over 2400 children and young people placed with over 2100 fostering families.
  • The majority of children and young people placed with FCA foster carers are aged 10 plus (68%) with 15 year olds being the largest age group (11%).

Placement Stability

  • Around 60% of children and young people have been in placement with FCA foster care families for twelve months or more.
  • Over 88% of under 16’s who have been placed with FCA for over 2½ years have been with the same foster carers for at least 2 years.

Education

  • 95% of the children and young people who have been placed with FCA for over a week have an appropriate school place established.

Foster Carer Recruitment

  • To continue offering placement choice, recruitment of foster carers is a high priority. During the period Jan 2009 to Dec 2009 the number of foster carer households approved was in excess of 360.

Partnerships with Local Authorities

  • FCA works in partnership with 94% of Local Authorities in England.
  • FCA works in partnership with 66% of the Local Authorities in Scotland.
  • FCA works in Partnership with 95% of Local Authorities in Wales.
  • FCA works in partnership with 100% of the Local Authorities in Northern Ireland.
