I Want To Foster - Foster Carers

Children & Young People Support Service

We all need different things to help us fulfil our potential – The Children & Young People Support Service (C&YPSS) aims to identify and meet these needs for both foster children and their carers.

Staffed by a team of carefully selected, assessed and trained Support Workers this branch of FCA aims to deliver a wide range of effective needs-led services.

Based on the agency's belief that appropriately supported foster carers allow children and young people who would otherwise be unable to live in a family environment to do so, these Services are tailored to help creatively meet the needs of foster children, their carers, and at times the carers children.

In addition, as part of FCA’s Team Parenting approach to fostering, the C&YPSS Team works alongside Therapists, Supervising Social Workers, Education Officers, Carers and Local Authority Social Workers, to support children and young people in placement. The team also assists the FCA Out of Hours Team by providing support in response to crises and other emergencies.

By working in partnership with others, the Children & Young People Support Service can offer a range of services including:
  • Day support to maintain a placement – whether it’s an education programme because a child/young person isn’t attending school, or support to meet an unforeseen emergency in a foster home

  • Transport for a child/young person to attend school, contact visits, FCA activities or holidays or, where appropriate, transport for foster carers

  • Supervision of contact between a child or young person and their birth family

  • FCA holidays and social activities for foster children/young people

  • FCA social activities for the sons and daughters of foster carers

  • Out of hours duty support in response to crises or emergencies

The Children & Young People Support Service is designed to be flexible and responsive and these examples are by no means exhaustive.
