Ain't No Mountain High Enough for FCA
May 5, 2005

Peter Jackson, health and safety manager of Bromsgrove-based, Foster Care Associates (FCA) is set to lead selected members of FCA staff in an ultimate challenge, in the hope of recruiting more foster carers.
Peter is organising for 35 of his colleagues to take part in a version of the Three Peaks Challenge on May 5-8. This involves climbing Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon, the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. Major sponsors, Agility UK has agreed to support the event by supplying a fleet of Toyota vehicles to transport team members around the country.
The National Three Peaks Challenge requires those taking part to complete all three mountains within 24 hours, however, the FCA teams are novice climbers, therefore are aiming for one mountain per day.
Peter, who is based at the head office of FCA on Hanbury Road, Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove, explains; “The idea stemmed from a competition at my local gym. They organised an adaptation of the Three Peaks Challenge using gym equipment, which I took part in and went on to win. It was great fun so I decided to look into doing the actual challenge.
“As so many of my colleagues were showing interest, with agreement of Jim Cockburn, chief executive, I opened the challenge up to FCA staff. After carrying out a strict selection process we now have three teams, each containing twelve climbers, who have been training hard for their task.”
“Everyone has put 100% effort into training for this challenge,” Peter continues. “There is currently a shortage of approximately 10,000 foster carers across the UK. By completing our task and with Foster Care Fortnight beginning on May 9, FCA is hoping to recruit more carers across the country.”
